The royal Porceleyne Fles is the only survivor of the approximately 32 pottery factories which stood in Delft in the mid-17th century.
The famous Delft pottery has a rich history, dating back to the early 1600s. The V.O.C. (Company of the Dutch East Indies) in the seventeenth century in addition to the spices also took blue on white decorated porcelain from China. This porcelain quickly became very popular among the wealthy of that time, such as European royal houses.
Dutch pottery started with the imitation of this blue on white decorated porcelain. This was the start of the Delft Blue industry, which is now known around the world as a purely Dutch product.
Royal Delft uses two centuries-old techniques to create Delft Blue, either hand painted or screen printed.
The origins and strength of Royal Delft are high quality ceramics.
